And they cried with a loud voice, saying, ‘How long, O Lord, holy and true, until You judge and avenge our blood on those who dwell on the earth? Next, the fifth seal is opened and we see…“When He opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of those who had been slain for the word of God and for the testimony which they held. How thankful we can be for the religious freedom we enjoy today! The history of those times is full of the sad record of intolerance, especially religious intolerance, and it was not limited to any one religion, or to anyone nation or race. This seal was marked by much cooperation of the political and spiritual powers and of religious wars and troubles.
These were all names of cities in the Roman province of Asia, a part of what we now call Asia Minor, territory belonging at the present time to the country of Turkey. And you and I may have a part in that song—the song of the redeemed as they praise the Lamb for the victory of the cross.Read more about the seventh seal It is that “divine event, to which the whole creation moves.” (Tennyson) It is the return of Jesus in power and great glory. This is the end of the seven time periods in the history of redemption, the completion of God’s plan for humanity in the Christian dispensation. For the great day of His wrath has come, and who is able to stand?
The second seal: a red horse
In our interactions with one another we should show the love which He manifested toward His disciples. They should not backbite and devour one another, but manifest the love of Jesus. It signifies those great truths of salvation through faith proclaimed by such mighty reformers as John Calvin, Martin Luther, John Knox, and others. “For then there will be great tribulation, such as has not been since the beginning of the world until this time, no, nor ever shall be.
Holy Spirit
Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and hallowed it.” And on the seventh day God ended His work which He had done, and He rested on the seventh day from all His work which He had done. “Thus the heavens and the earth, and all the host of them, were finished. “Then God said, ‘Let the waters under the heavens be gathered together into one place, and let the dry land appear’; and it was so.
The emphasis of the Hebrew and Greek terms translated “for ever” in the Bible is on duration. Although God promised David a dynastic throne that would last “for ever,” David understood the promise to mean “for a great while to come.” It actually ended with Zedekiah in 586 B.C. While these terms may be translated “forever” or “everlasting/eternal” in English, both the Hebrew and Greek words derive their length from the nature of the object described. To Western minds the expression “forever” means “endlessness.” However, this is not the meaning to the Eastern mind-set when either the Hebrew `ôlām or the Greek aiōn/aiōnios is used.
The Day of Atonement
An event that is not only a memorial, but also a sign of knowing God and a covenant of salvation and a forever friendship celebration and worship day, would have no reason to be removed. A birthday memorial cannot be eliminated or changed any more than your own birthday or national holiday because all three are permanent historical events. This could only be true of the yearly sabbaths that were prophetic of Christ’s sacrifice and ministry. Does this “blotting out” and “abolishing,” include the seventh-day Sabbath? What did all these offerings and yearly sabbaths point forward to?
The view that each day of the Genesis Creation account is actually an extremely long period of time—rather than literal days of twenty-four hours—causes problems. The integrity of the weekly cycle continues and is an evidence for Creation week being composed of seven literal days. God set aside the seventh day of Creation week as a holy rest day.
The lamb is worthy
- Are there passages in the Bible besides the prohibitions for the Gentiles in Acts 15 in which days to be regarded and food to be eaten is to accommodate those who have mistaken ideas about days and food?
- They should not backbite and devour one another, but manifest the love of Jesus.
- It was a joyous time because the people felt cleansed from the burden of their sins and at peace with God.
- Thus the weekly cycle is evidence that the days of Creation were literal days of twenty-four hours.
- There are many other lessons in these prophetic messages to the seven churches which we shall not mention now, but read them for yourselves.
Each tenet or fundamental belief of the Seventh-day Adventist Church can be found here. Orthodox Jews continue to observe the seventh-day Sabbath even today. However, on Friday, they were to gather twice the usual amount of manna, because none would be available Sabbath (Saturday) morning. However, the word, yom, always means a twenty-four-hour literal day when it is used with a numeral—day one, day two, first day, second day, etc.
We may have beautiful church buildings, we may have large budgets; but we need the divine riches, faith and hope and love. But there were many faithful believers in those days. Ephesus very appropriately symbolizes the condition of the church in its first state of purity in the days of the apostles of Christ. The days of the fifth seal, the Protestant Reformation, had just closed, when according to the prophecy, the sixth seal was to open with “a great earthquake.” During this time those who witnessed for the faith with their blood are shown as crying out to God.Read more about the fifth seal The right to break these seven seals of future events belongs to Jesus Christ because He died for humanity of all ages, from creation to the end of time.
- This was understood to be a day of judgment when all sin was dealt with and the people, the priest and the tabernacle/temple were cleansed.
- Throughout the Bible, because of His love, God sent prophets to guide humanity to a deeper relationship with Him and to prepare them for the coming of Jesus.
- Now we turn to the second chapter of Revelation and notice the seven churches in order.
- “For then there will be great tribulation, such as has not been since the beginning of the world until this time, no, nor ever shall be.
- At this same time, as Philip Schaff, the great church historian, says, she received into her bosom vast deposits of foreign material from the world and from heathenism.
No time lost
This is very clear as we study the prophecy of the seven churches. So you see that we really have a sevenfold prophecy of seven successive periods and conditions of the church, from the beginning of the Christian Church to the conclusion of it all. When the righteous return with Christ and all the holy angels to the Father’s home above, heaven will be no longer silent. And as the sixth seal closes they are being forced out of the era or time and are not prepared for eternity. They have no faith in God’s Word; therefore they are not looking for the certain events of the sixth seal.
“For in six days the Lord made the heaven and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, but He rested the seventh-day. God created the world in six literal days. The wording of the creation account in the first two chapters of Genesis is best understood as meaning literal days. The word “remember” at the beginning of this commandment cannot have meaning if the days were long eons of time (much longer than human lifespans).
In those days it was often worth a man’s life to be a Christian. Indeed, the devil is about to throw some of you into prison, that you may be tested, and you will have tribulation ten days. Look back pin up casino to the time of your first love, when that first love came from those first works, works of repentance, obedience, earnest Christian service, of suffering for the Master.
But the last of the apostles died, and we come now to a new period in the church led by men who did not know our Saviour in the flesh. Remember, friend, there is not one love with which we love men and another with which we love God. Our love for our brother, our friend, our neighbor is the measure of our love for God. I believe I love Him, but I want to know.” Well, look at the following gauge.
The next seal flashes a sad picture on the screen of prophecy. As the Savior breaks the first seal of the great book, a wondrous scene flashes before the gaze of the holy apostle John, He says, “And I looked, and behold, a white horse. As by faith we see the shining ones above bow before Him in loving adoration, declaring Him worthy to open the seven-sealed book. As this prophecy opens, we see Christ as the Lamb of God take the great book of God’s providence and begin to open its seven seals, one by one.
Now we turn to the second chapter of Revelation and notice the seven churches in order. Admonitions and warnings are given for each, and then blessings especially appropriate to the time are pronounced. The good qualities of these church periods are pointed out as well as their defects.
This, too, argues that the Creation week in Genesis was a week of seven literal days. Other than the week of creation as described in Genesis, there seems to be no basis for the week as a unit of time. As a unit of time, the week has no basis in the natural movements of earth, moon, or sun as do the day, the month, and the year. Thus the weekly cycle is evidence that the days of Creation were literal days of twenty-four hours. This illustrates that the weekly Sabbath, marking each cycle of seven literal days, continued to be a memorial of Creation week.
